SRINAGAR, May 12: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said the country was heading towards an energy crisis if the West Asia conflict is not resolved soon
\n\u201cA crisis is coming upon us, fuel crisis, gas crisis. We are heading towards destruction,\u201d Abdullah told reporters here.
\nThe former chief minister said the government wants to switch to online mode for schools in order to save fuel.
\n\u201cHowever, everyone (student) does not have the online facility. We will have to think and do something about it because education is very important,\u201d he added.
\nIn response to a question, Abdullah said the economy of the country was in a bad shape.
\n\u201cYes, the economy is definitely finished. If this Iran-US conflict does not end soon, God knows what is in fate for us,\u201d he said.
\nPrime Minister Narendra Modi had on Sunday urged for fuel conservation and lower imports as surging global energy prices pressure India\u2019s foreign exchange reserves, while also calling for restraint in gold purchases to ease external vulnerabilities.
\nOn the PDP\u2019s demand for ban on alcohol, the NC president said they were criticising the government just for the sake of it as they do not have any substantial issues to raise.
\n\u201cI want to ask them why they were quiet when the liquor shops were being opened. We know who is pulling their strings,\u201d he said without naming the PDP or any opposition party.
\nAbdullah said the government will not waste any time in banning alcohol if the Centre will provide some relief to Jammu and Kashmir for the revenue losses that will be incurred due to such a step.<\/p>\n
