NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged citizens to prioritise domestic products during the upcoming festive season, reiterating his call for the \u201cVocal for Local\u201d campaign as a step towards strengthening India\u2019s self-reliance.Addressing the nation in the 131st episode of Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister extended greetings on the occasion of Ramadan and the forthcoming festival of Holi. He noted that the holy month of Ramadan is underway and wished people peace and blessings, adding that Holi \u2014 the festival of colours \u2014 is just days away, bringing with it joy, colours, and togetherness.Encouraging people to celebrate festivals with happiness and unity, PM Modi emphasised the importance of supporting local artisans, traders and manufacturers. He appealed to citizens to remember the mantra of \u201cVocal for Local\u201d while making festive purchases and to choose Swadeshi products over imported goods.The Prime Minister cautioned that several foreign-made items have increasingly become part of traditional celebrations and urged people to consciously avoid such products. By opting for locally made goods, he said, citizens would not only preserve traditions but also contribute to strengthening the country\u2019s economy and advancing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).The \u2018Vocal for Local\u2019 initiative, promoted by the Central Government and supported by NITI Aayog, seeks to encourage consumers to give preference to domestically produced goods and services. The campaign aims to empower local businesses, create employment opportunities and enhance India\u2019s manufacturing capabilities.
\nRamadan, observed by Muslims across the world, is a sacred month dedicated to fasting, prayer, reflection and charity. During this period, devotees fast from dawn to sunset and engage in increased spiritual practices. This year, Ramadan began on February 18, 2026, and will continue for about 29 to 30 days.Holi, one of the most vibrant Hindu festivals, will be celebrated on March 4, 2026, with Holika Dahan observed on the night of March 3. The festival is marked by the playing of colours, music and festive gatherings, symbolising the triumph of good over evil and the spirit of harmony.<\/p>\n
