JAMMU: Asserting that Jammu and Kashmir stands at the threshold of transformation, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday emphasized that education is the most powerful tool for equity and empowerment and must reach every corner of the Union Territory.<\/p>\n

Addressing the 19th Special Convocation of the University of Jammu, the Chief Minister said, \u201cJammu and Kashmir stands at the threshold of transformation. Education is at the heart of this journey \u2014 empowering our youth to become innovators, entrepreneurs, and nation builders.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abdullah urged the youth to become agents of positive change in society and to choose careers that bring both purpose and compassion. He lauded the University of Jammu for serving as a \u201ccatalyst of progress,\u201d producing not just skilled graduates but also responsible and resilient citizens.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we march ahead, let us ensure that the light of knowledge reaches every corner \u2014 from this campus, from the campuses of Kathua and Bhaderwah, to the remotest hamlets of Poonch, Rajouri, and Kishtwar,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Congratulating the medal and degree recipients, Abdullah said, \u201cThe medals and degrees you receive are symbols of your perseverance, your teachers\u2019 guidance, and your families\u2019 unconditional support. Carry forward the values you have learnt \u2014 integrity, curiosity, and humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister stressed that success is not measured by personal achievements but by one\u2019s contribution to society. \u201cI urge you to dream big, think boldly, serve selflessly, and contribute to building a nation marked by progress, harmony, and inclusivity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Abdullah also commended the exceptional performance of female students, noting that over 400 of the 600 medal recipients were girls.<\/p>\n

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai highlighted that female scholars have outperformed their male counterparts by a ratio of nearly three to one in securing PhD degrees and gold medals \u2014 a proud reflection of women\u2019s growing leadership in higher education.<\/p>\n

Between 2020 and 2024, 425 PhD degrees and 178 gold medals were awarded across batches, underscoring the university\u2019s academic excellence.<\/p>\n

The convocation was presided over by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and attended by senior officials, faculty members, and proud families of the graduates.<\/p>\n
