Islamabad, Nov 11: A suicide bomber on Tuesday detonated his explosives near a police vehicle outside a court in Pakistan\u2019s capital, killing at least 12 people and wounding 27 others, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said.
\nNaqvi, who visited the site of the blast, said the attacker wanted to enter the court complex, but on failure, he detonated his explosives near a police vehicle at the gate of the building in the G-11 area of the capital at 12.39 pm (local time).
\nThe minister said that 12 people were killed and 27 others injured, including security personnel and a lawyer, in the blast near the Islamabad District Judicial Complex.
\nNo group or individual claimed responsibility for the attack, but such strikes are usually carried out by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistani (TTP).
\n\u201cOur first priority is to identify the attacker\u2026Whenever the attacker is identified, we will share with the media,\u201d Naqvi said as he vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
\nNaqvi said that the process of identifying the victims has been going on. He said that those sponsoring militants in Pakistan had increased their funding by threefold.
\n\u201cWe are linking today\u2019s blast with many factors. Things will be clear in the coming hours. There are several messages of it\u2026,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t want to say anything at this point, as often the Indians do (start blaming soon after such incidents). We will come with full evidence and details.\u201d Naqvi said Pakistan is clear that Afghanistan should stop terrorism coming from their soil, \u201cotherwise we will have to take action against them.\u201d Both President Asif Ali Zardari and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif termed the attack a \u201csuicide blast\u201d.
\nDefence Minister Asif said the Afghan Taliban has sent a message through the bombing.
\n\u201cThe rulers of Kabul can stop terrorism in Pakistan, but bringing this war all the way to Islamabad is a message from Kabul, to which \u2013 praise be to God \u2013 Pakistan has the full strength to respond,\u201d he said in a message on X to express his reaction to the attack in Islamabad.
\n\u201cIn this environment, it would be futile to hold out greater hope for successful negotiations with the rulers of Kabul,\u201d he said.
\nThe minister warned that Pakistan was in a state of war.
\n\u201cAnyone who thinks that the Pakistan Army is fighting this war in the Afghan-Pakistan border region and the remote areas of Balochistan should take today\u2019s suicide attack at the Islamabad district courts as a wake-up call: this is a war for all of Pakistan, in which the Pakistan Army is giving daily sacrifices and making the people feel secure.\u201d President Zardari strongly condemned the suicide blast and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families. He also prayed for the early recovery of the injured.
\nEarlier, state-run Pakistan Television (PTV) reported that the rescue authorities retrieved 12 bodies from the site of the blast and transferred them to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital.
\nIt added that 20 injured individuals have been shifted to the emergency department of the PIMS Hospital.
\n\u201cThe suicide bomber\u2019s head was found lying on the road,\u201d it reported.
\nThe attack came days after the third round of talks between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban failed to reach any agreement to tackle the issue of terrorism emanating from Afghanistan.
\nPakistan has seen a surge in terrorist attacks, particularly in areas bordering Afghanistan, mostly targeting police, law enforcement personnel, and security forces.
\nOn Monday, six people were injured after a suicide bomber detonated explosives at the main gate of a Cadet College in the South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, bordering Afghanistan.
\nAccording to security officials, the attack at the Cadet College Wana was reportedly carried out by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
\nThe Pakistan government last year notified the TTP as \u201cFitna al-Khawarij\u201d, a reference to a group in earlier Islamic history which was involved in violence.<\/p>\n
