JAMMU, May 29: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), in a major step to bolster security for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, has approved the deployment of 581 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) for duty in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah\u2019s visit on Thursday.
\nA communication regarding the same has been sent to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of J&K on May 23. The MHA had responded to a formal request from the J&K government dated May 20, seeking additional forces to ensure a safe and peaceful pilgrimage season.
\nAccording to sources, 156 companies are already stationed in J&K\u2014including units from the CRPF (91), BSF (13) and from other CAPFs.
\nAn additional 425 companies will be deployed, consisting of CRPF (128, including five Mahila Coys), BSF (130), CISF (45), ITBP (55), and SSB (67). These additional deployments are to be made available in the next few days.
\nThe MHA clarified that all 581 companies will remain deployed until the conclusion of the Yatra, after which they will be withdrawn immediately.
\nThe ministry has directed the UT administration of Jammu & Kashmir to work out the detailed deployment plan in close coordination with the respective forces. MHA has emphasised arrangements for transportation, logistics, accommodation, and other necessary facilities to be managed by the UT government.
\nSpecial instructions were issued to the Railway Board to allocate sufficient train coaches for the movement of security personnel as per requirements.
\nThis year, ensuring the safety of pilgrims during the sacred Yatra, which attracts lakhs of devotees annually, will be the biggest challenge for the security grid, especially when the culprits of Pahalgam attack are still at large.<\/p>\n
