{"id":26456,"date":"2025-01-18T05:50:25","date_gmt":"2025-01-18T05:50:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/?p=26456"},"modified":"2025-01-18T05:50:25","modified_gmt":"2025-01-18T05:50:25","slug":"draft-of-jks-new-transport-policy-submitted-for-review-tc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/draft-of-jks-new-transport-policy-submitted-for-review-tc\/","title":{"rendered":"Draft of J&#038;K\u2019s new transport policy submitted for review: TC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Srinagar, Jan 17: Jammu and Kashmir Transport Commissioner (TC) Vishesh Paul Mahajan announced today that the draft of a new transport policy aimed at enhancing road safety and transportation infrastructure has been submitted to the administrative department for review.Speaking at an event marking National Road Safety Week, Mahajan said that the draft of the policy has been sent to the Administrative Department and that discussions will take place before any action is taken.\u201cI have learned that my predecessors sent a draft to the Administrative Department, and there will be a discussion on it. The future course will be based on that,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nThe Transport Commissioner emphasized the importance of fostering a safer driving environment to reduce accidents and ensure compliance with traffic regulations. He underscored the need for strict action against traffic violations.<br \/>\n\u201cDrivers must follow rules. Wear seat belts in cars and helmets on motorcycles. Violations will result in penalties, including license cancellations, vehicle seizures, and other legal actions,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nHe also warned that reckless behaviours, such as performing stunts, would face severe consequences, particularly if they endanger lives.<br \/>\nMahajan highlighted the progress of a transport subsidy scheme aimed at replacing vehicles over 15 years old. The scheme provides financial assistance of up to Rs. 5 lakh or 16% of the new vehicle\u2019s cost, whichever is lower, directly into the bank accounts of vehicle owners who complete the scrapping procedures.<br \/>\n\u201cWe have received around 35 applications in Kashmir and 100 in Jammu under this scheme. Vehicle owners are required to scrap their old vehicles, have the chassis cut, and obtain certification from the Motor Vehicle Department,\u201d he explained.He also reviewed the functioning of the Motor Vehicle Department in Kashmir since assuming office in December last year.<br \/>\nHe announced the construction of a state-of-the-art Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) in in Srinagar. \u201cThe new system aims to enhance the quality of road tests and promote safer driving practices,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nMahajan also inspected the ongoing construction of the new transport office in Srinagar and assured updates on its progress in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_26458\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26458\" style=\"width: 300px\"
