NEW DELHI, Aug 31: On Thursday, the Delhi High Court<\/a> mandated that Omar Abdullah<\/a>, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, pay his estranged wife Payal Abdullah 1.5 lakh a month in maintenance.
\nAdditionally, Abdullah<\/a> was ordered by Justice Subramonium Prasad to pay 60,000 per month for his son’s tuition.
\nThe decision was made in response to a petition filed by Payal Abdullah, who had previously gone before the High Court<\/a> in July 2018 to appeal a trial court’s order dated April 26, 2018.In proceedings under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), the trial court had awarded interim maintenance to Payal Abdullah and their son in the amount of 75,000 per month each till the latter turned 18 years old.
\nPayal Abdullah petitioned the High Court to have the same enhanced.
\nShe maintained that the amount of support granted is insufficient and that their sons must rely on them for both daily expenses and their schooling because they are too young to handle their own expenses.Omar Abdullah’s petition for divorce had been rejected by a trial court in 2016 on the grounds that he had not established “irretrievable breakdown of the marriage” or his allegations of “cruelty or desertion.”
\nBefore the Delhi High Court, Abdullah has appealed this decision.<\/p>\n
