{"id":2230,"date":"2023-08-29T09:29:04","date_gmt":"2023-08-29T09:29:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/?p=2230"},"modified":"2023-08-29T09:29:04","modified_gmt":"2023-08-29T09:29:04","slug":"government-tells-supreme-court-jk-union-territory-status-temporary-statehood-restoration-planned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/government-tells-supreme-court-jk-union-territory-status-temporary-statehood-restoration-planned\/","title":{"rendered":"Government tells Supreme Court : J&#038;K Union territory status temporary, statehood restoration planned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, the <a href=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/jk-cant-be-run-through-a-remote-control-from-delhi-political-leaders-on-delay-in-assembly-polls\/\">Central government<\/a> informed the<a href=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/sc-asks-ag-sg-to-look-into-suspension-of-jk-lecturer-for-appearing-in-article-370\/\"> Supreme Court<\/a> that the division of Jammu and Kashmir into the Union territories of Jammu &amp; Kashmir and <a href=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/in-many-ways-rahuls-ladakh-yatra-is-continuation-of-bharat-jodo-yatra-congress\/\">Ladakh<\/a> was only a temporary measure and that J&amp;K&#8217;s status as a Union Territory would eventually be reversed to that of a state in the future once things returned to normal.The Supreme Court asked how short-term this was and when J&amp;K elections will be held. Tushar Mehta, the Solicitor General, retorted that steps were being made to accomplish the purpose. The <a href=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/sc-defers-scientific-survey-of-shivling-gyanvapi-mosque\/\">Supreme Court<\/a> also stated that it was inclined to accept Parliament&#8217;s determination that splitting J&amp;K into two UTs was in the best interests of the country. However, the court has requested information from the Union administration regarding the estimated timetable for J&amp;K&#8217;s restoration of statehood.&#8221;Restoring democracy is important,&#8221; it stated. A group of petitions contesting the repeal of <a href=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/omar-abdullah-have-engaged-best-lawyers-in-supreme-court-to-challenge-article-370-revocation\/\">Article 370<\/a> and the division of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories were being heard by a five-judge Supreme Court Constitution bench.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2231\"
