JAMMU: The Government Medical College<\/a> (GMC), Jammu has become the first health facility in the country to have armed forces for the security of medical staff.<\/p>\n

Before this, the West Bengal government had said it would recruit personnel from police, army, navy, and air force for hospital security.<\/p>\n

However, GMC Jammu is the first health facility in the country where the armed forces have been deployed.<\/p>\n

The move has come following the rape and murder of a female doctor in western city of Kolkata which stirred people and governments across the country, demanding justice for the victim and the protection for medical workers in the country’s hospitals.<\/p>\n

As per reports, personnel from Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have been deployed in the emergency section of the hospital. Reports said, for now there are 10-personnel, but the number may rise to 30 in the near future.<\/p>\n

Reports also suggest, that the deployment of armed personnel would be extended to other hospitals in Jammu region.<\/p>\n
