{"id":18567,"date":"2024-06-17T11:03:09","date_gmt":"2024-06-17T11:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/?p=18567"},"modified":"2024-06-17T11:03:09","modified_gmt":"2024-06-17T11:03:09","slug":"bharat-india-to-be-used-interchangeably-in-textbooks-debate-over-it-useless-ncert-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/bharat-india-to-be-used-interchangeably-in-textbooks-debate-over-it-useless-ncert-chief\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Bharat\u2019, \u2018India\u2019 To Be Used Interchangeably In Textbooks, Debate Over It Useless: NCERT Chief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW DELHI, June 17: \u201cBharat\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/india-6th-country-to-launch-deep-sea-mission-dr-jitendra\/\">India<\/a>\u201d will be used interchangeably in NCERT textbooks as is the case in the country\u2019s Constitution, <a href=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/no-need-to-teach-about-riots-demolition-in-schools-says-ncert-chief-after-textbook-revisions\/\">National Council of Educational Research and Training<\/a> Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani has said.The comments assume significance in the wake of a high-level panel working on the social science curriculum recommending that \u201cIndia\u201d should be replaced with \u201cBharat\u201d in school textbooks for all classes.<br \/>\nIn an interaction with editors at the agency\u2019s headquarters here, the <a href=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/new-curriculum-books-for-grades-3-6-from-2024-25-no-change-in-syllabus-for-other-classes-cbse\/\">NCERT<\/a> chief said both the words will be used in the books and the council has no aversion to either \u201cBharat\u201d or \u201cIndia\u201d.<br \/>\n\u201cIt is interchangeable\u2026.Our position is what our Constitution says and we uphold that. We can use Bharat, we can use India, what is the problem? We are not in that debate. Wherever it suits we will use India, wherever it suits we will use Bharat. We have no aversion to either India or Bharat,\u201d he said.<br \/>\n\u201cYou can see both being used in our textbooks already and that will continue in new textbooks. This is a useless debate,\u201d Saklani said.<br \/>\nA high-level committee for social sciences, constituted by the NCERT to revise the school curriculum, had last year recommended that \u201cIndia\u201d should be replaced with \u201cBharat\u201d in the textbooks for all classes.<br \/>\nCommittee chairperson C I Isaac, who was heading the panel, had said they have suggested replacing the name \u201cIndia\u201d with \u201cBharat\u201d in the textbooks, introducing \u201cclassical history\u201d, instead of \u201cancient history\u201d in the curriculum, and including the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) in the syllabus for all subjects.<br \/>\n\u201cThe committee has unanimously recommended that the name Bharat should be used in the textbooks for students across classes. Bharat is an age-old name. The name Bharat has been used in ancient texts, such as Vishnu Purana, which is 7,000 years old,\u201d Isaac had told PTI.<br \/>\nThe NCERT had then said that no decision has been taken on panel\u2019s recommendations.<br \/>\nThe name Bharat first appeared officially last year when the Government sent out G20 invites in the name of \u201cPresident of Bharat\u201d, instead of \u201cPresident of India\u201d.<br \/>\nLater, the nameplate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the summit in New Delhi also read \u201cBharat\u201d, instead of India.<\/p>\n<figure
