{"id":14213,"date":"2024-04-02T07:24:07","date_gmt":"2024-04-02T07:24:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/?p=14213"},"modified":"2024-04-02T07:24:07","modified_gmt":"2024-04-02T07:24:07","slug":"patanjali-advertisements-sc-comes-down-hard-on-ramdev-acharya-balkrishna-for-absolute-defiance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/patanjali-advertisements-sc-comes-down-hard-on-ramdev-acharya-balkrishna-for-absolute-defiance\/","title":{"rendered":"Patanjali Advertisements | SC Comes Down Hard On Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna For \u2018Absolute Defiance\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New Delhi, Apr 2: The <a href=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/sc-rejects-applications-for-stay-on-appointment-of-new-election-commissioners\/\">Supreme Court<\/a> on Tuesday came down hard on yoga guru<a href=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/supreme-court-asks-patanjali-ayurved-md-acharya-balkrishna-yog-guru-ramdev-to-appear-before-it\/\"> Ramdev<\/a> and managing director of Patanjali Ayurved Acharya Balkrishna for their \u201cabsolute defiance\u201d in not filing proper affidavits of compliance in the misleading advertisement case and breaking \u201cevery barrier\u201d.<br \/>\nIt also disapproved of the Patanjali MD\u2019s statement that the Drugs and Cosmetics (Magic Remedies) Act is \u201carchaic\u201d.\u201cNot just the Supreme Court, every order passed by the courts across this country has to be respected \u2026 this is absolute defiance,\u201d a bench comprising Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah said.<br \/>\n\u201cYou have to abide by undertaking given to court and you have broken every barrier,\u201d the bench told Ramdev and the Patanjali MD, who were present in person.<br \/>\nThe top court wondered as to why the Centre \u201cchose to keep its eyes shut when Patanjali was going to town saying there were no remedy for Covid in allopathy\u201d.<br \/>\nSenior advocate Balbir Singh, appearing for Ramdev, urged the court to take note of the presence of the yoga guru and his unconditional apology.<br \/>\nWhat has happened should not have happened, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court and offered to help the counsel for parties to find a solution to the whole issue.<br \/>\n\u201cYou should have made sure affidavit is filed in pursuance of your solemn undertakings,\u201d Justice Kohli told the counsel for Balkrishna.<br \/>\n\u201cSometimes things should reach logical conclusion,\u201d the bench said at the outset of the proceedings when the counsel for Patanjali and others sought some more time for filing the affidavits of compliance.<br \/>\nThe bench granted last opportunity to Ramdev and Balkrishna to file their affidavits in the matter in one week.<br \/>\nWhile posting the matter for further hearing on April 10, the bench directed that both of them shall remain present before it on the next date. On March 19, the apex court had directed Ramdev and Balkrishna to appear before it after taking exception to the company\u2019s failure to respond to the notice issued in the case relating to advertisements of the firm\u2019s products and their medicinal efficacy.<br \/>\nThe top court had said it deemed it appropriate to issue a show cause notice to Ramdev as the advertisements issued by Patanjali, which were in the teeth of the undertaking given to the court on November 21, 2023, reflect an endorsement by him.<br \/>\n\u201cBoth are present?\u201d the bench asked on Tuesday.
