{"id":13905,"date":"2024-03-29T08:32:51","date_gmt":"2024-03-29T08:32:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/?p=13905"},"modified":"2024-03-29T08:32:51","modified_gmt":"2024-03-29T08:32:51","slug":"narendra-modi-govt-trying-to-make-congress-party-bankrupt-says-aicc-gen-secy-venugopal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/narendra-modi-govt-trying-to-make-congress-party-bankrupt-says-aicc-gen-secy-venugopal\/","title":{"rendered":"Narendra Modi Govt Trying To Make Congress Party Bankrupt, Says AICC Gen Secy Venugopal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ALAPPUZHA, (Kerala), Mar 29: The <a href=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/only-congress-especially-rahul-gandhi-can-understand-pain-of-jk-mehbooba-mufti\/\">Congress<\/a> on Friday sharply reacted to the Income Tax Department\u2019s notice to the grand old party to pay a penalty of over Rs 1,750 crore and said the officials were being used as the \u201cgundas\u201d of the ruling BJP.<br \/>\nAddressing the media here, AICC general secretary in-charge of the organisation, K C Venugopal, lashed out at the Narendra Modi-led BJP Government and accused it of trying to \u201cfinancially strangulate\u201d the opposition parties during the election time.<br \/>\nVenugopal said the Modi Government was trying to make the Congress party bankrupt.<br \/>\nThe <a href=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/congress-alleges-partys-accounts-frozen-calls-it-freeze-of-democracy\/\">Income Tax Department<\/a> has served a notice to the Congress to pay over Rs 1750 crore, hours after the Delhi High Court had rejected its petitions challenging the tax reassessment proceedings against it.<br \/>\n\u201cUsually, the political parties are exempted from paying taxes. However, this penalty is in the name of delay in filing returns. The Narendra Modi Government is doing this with the specific purpose of bankrupting the Congress party at a time when we are facing elections,\u201d Venugopal said.<br \/>\nHe said a nationwide protest will be held tomorrow and the day after as the BJP was \u201cexploiting\u201d the central agencies to target the opposition parties.<br \/>\n\u201cThey are attacking the opposition parties using the Government mechanism. This is a move to butcher democracy,\u201d Venugopal added.<br \/>\nHe also claimed that the BJP too has not paid any returns, but they were safe from IT Department notices.<br \/>\n\u201cOur accounts were freezed earlier and now our funds have been blocked. The BJP regime is exploiting the government machinery to target the main opposition party as they know that they will face a huge setback in the upcoming elections,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nVenugopal said as per the notice, the Congress has been asked to pay Rs 1076.35 crore as penalty and Rs 692 crore as interest.<br \/>\nThe Delhi High Court on Thursday rejected petitions by the Congress challenging the initiation of tax reassessment proceedings against it for a period of four years by tax authorities.<br \/>\nThe High Court said that the pleas were dismissed in terms of its earlier decision refusing to interfere with the opening of reassessment for another period.<br \/>\nThe present matter pertained to the assessment years 2017 to 2021.<br \/>\nIn the earlier petition, which was dismissed last week, the Congress party had challenged initiation of reassessment proceedings pertaining to the assessment years 2014-15 to 2016-17.<br \/>\nOn March 22, the high court, while rejecting those pleas, said that the tax authority had prima facie collated \u201csubstantial and concrete\u201d evidence warranting further scrutiny and examination.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13906\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13906\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-13906\" src=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Screenshot-2024-03-29-at-2.02.14-PM-300x178.png\" alt=\"Narendra Modi Govt Trying To Make Congress Party Bankrupt, Says AICC Gen Secy Venugopal\" width=\"300\" height=\"178\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13906\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Narendra Modi Govt Trying To Make Congress Party Bankrupt, Says AICC Gen Secy Venugopal<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ALAPPUZHA, (Kerala), Mar 29: The Congress on Friday sharply reacted to the Income Tax Department\u2019s notice to the grand old party to pay a penalty of over Rs 1,750 crore and said the officials were being used as the \u201cgundas\u201d of the ruling BJP.
