{"id":11668,"date":"2024-02-24T11:23:05","date_gmt":"2024-02-24T11:23:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/?p=11668"},"modified":"2024-02-24T11:23:05","modified_gmt":"2024-02-24T11:23:05","slug":"about-36-rajya-sabha-candidates-declared-criminal-cases-against-themselves-adr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/about-36-rajya-sabha-candidates-declared-criminal-cases-against-themselves-adr\/","title":{"rendered":"About 36% Rajya Sabha Candidates Declared Criminal Cases Against Themselves: ADR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW DELHI, Feb 24: \u201cThirty-six per cent of <a href=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/rajya-sabha-takes-up-three-bills-on-jk\/\">Rajya Sabha<\/a> candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves while the average assets of candidates analysed stood at \u20b9127.81 crore,\u201d according to poll rights body Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).<br \/>\nThe ADR and the <a href=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/its-been-6-to-7-years-elections-have-still-not-happened-in-jk-farooq-abdullah\/\">National Election<\/a> Watch analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 58 out of the 59 candidates in the fray for 56 seats in 15 States. The Rajya Sabha polls are scheduled for February 27.<br \/>\nCongress candidate from Karnataka G. C. Chandrashekar was omitted from the analysis due to poorly scanned documents. The analysis found that 36% of the scrutinised candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves.<br \/>\nAdditionally, 17% of these individuals face serious criminal charges with one candidate having cases related to attempted murder.<br \/>\nAccording to the analysis, eight (27%) out of 30 BJP candidates, six (67%) out of nine Congress candidates, one (25%) out of four TMC candidates, two (67%) out of three SP candidates, one (33%) out of three YSRCP candidates, one (50%) out of two RJD nominees, one (50%) out of two BJD candidates, and one (100%) BRS candidate have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits. Moreover, the analysis delved into the financial backgrounds of the candidates.<br \/>\nApproximately 21% of the candidates are billionaires, boasting of assets exceeding \u20b9100 crore. The average assets of Rajya Sabha candidates stand at \u20b9127.81 crore.<br \/>\n\u201cCongress nominee from Himachal Pradesh Abhishek Manu Singhvi with total assets worth \u20b91,872 crore, Samajwadi Party nominee from Uttar Pradesh Jaya Amitabh Bachchan with assets worth \u20b91,578 crore and JD(S) nominee from <a href=\"https:\/\/jammubulletin.com\/site\/13-arrested-in-isis-terror-conspiracy-case-following-nia-raids-in-maharashtra-karnataka\/\">Karnataka<\/a> Kupendra Reddy with assets amounting to \u20b9871 crore are among the top three weathiest candidates,\u201d according to the analysis.<br \/>\nAmong the poorest candidates are BJP\u2019s Madhya Pradesh candidate Balyogi Umesh Nath with assets worth more than \u20b947 lakh, BJP\u2019s West Bengal candidate Samik Bhattacharya with assets worth \u20b91 crore and BJP\u2019s Uttar Pradesh candidate Sangita with assets worth \u20b91 crore.<br \/>\nWhile 17% of the candidates have educational qualifications ranging from 5th pass to 12th pass, a significant 79% hold graduate or higher degrees.<br \/>\n\u201cA majority (76%) of the candidates fall in the 51-70 age group with a smaller proportion (16%) in the 31-50 age group.
