Cong receives Rs 2.81 cr within 48 hrs of launching crowdfunding campaign

NEW DELHI: Within 48 hours of starting its crowdfunding campaign, the Congress received Rs 2.81 crore from more than 1.13 lakh donors. Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge launched the "Donate for Desh" crowdsourcing campaign on Monday with a Rs 1.38 lakh donation. Although UPI accounted for 80% of the money donated to the party, sources claimed that the Congress app had been the target of up to 20,000 cyberattacks. They said that the majority of cyber attacks originated overseas and that 1,340 of them involved data theft. According to the sources, in the first 48 hours, over 1,13,700 people gave to the party, totaling Rs 2.81 crore.More than Rs 1 lakh has been donated by thirty-two individuals, including senior party leaders and former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. According to the sources, the Congress will use more creative methods to raise money before the 2e024 Lok Sabha elections, including selling memorabilia like t-shirts, mugs and caps autographed by Gandhi. Maharashtra (Rs 56 lakh), Rajasthan (Rs 26 lakh), Delhi (Rs 20 lakh), Uttar Pradesh (Rs 19 lakh), and Karnataka (Rs 18 lakh) are among the states that have contributed the most. Although a lot of people have donated in Bihar, the total amount is not very high, according to a party leader. According to him, the party wants to connect as many people with the Congress and reach out to an increasing number of people through the campaign. More than one crore people have accessed the application, according to the sources, who also mentioned that the crowdfunding would pick up steam during a rally scheduled for December 28 in Nagpur to commemorate the party's founding day. To intensify the campaign, the Congress will shortly designate observers in a number of states. In addition to Kharge and Gandhi, other individuals who contributed more than Rs 1 lakh included Ashok Gehlot, C P Joshi, Sushilkumar Shinde, Devender Yadav, Pawan Khera, Jairam Ramesh, Niranjan Pattanayak, and Pariniti Shinde.The campaign was started on the 138th anniversary of the Congress's founding. According to the party, the historic "Tilak Swaraj Fund" established by Mahatma Gandhi more than a century ago, in 1920–21, served as the model for this initiative. According to a senior leader, the initiative aims to empower the party in creating an India rich in equitable resource distribution and opportunities. Donors are being asked to contribute in multiples of Rs 138, which stands for the party's unwavering dedication to improving India. For the crowdsourcing campaign, the party has set up two online platforms: the official Congress website at inc.in and a dedicated portal at donateinc.in. Chilla-i-Kalan: Kashmir valley braces for harshest winter period

SRINAGAR: As the valley prepares for "Chilla-i-Kalan," the 40-day harshest winter period, the minimum temperature in Kashmir remained several degrees below the freezing point, officials said on Wednesday. According to officials, the previous night's low of minus 3.7 degrees Celsius was surpassed by a low of minus 4.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday night in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. According to reports, Pahalgam, one of the base camps for the yearly Amarnath Yatra in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.3 degrees Celsius.According to officials, a low of minus 4.4 degrees Celsius was recorded at the well-known ski resort of Gulmarg in the Baramulla district. The minimum temperature in Qazigund was recorded at minus 4 degrees Celsius, while in Kokernag town it was recorded at minus 3.3 degrees Celsius and in Kupwara at minus 3.5 degrees Celsius. The weather bureau has predicted mostly dry conditions in Kashmir for the upcoming few days due to a predicted further drop in the minimum temperature. A lot of the slower moving water bodies have frozen as a result of the temperature drop. In certain places, it has also caused the water supply pipes to freeze. People in many parts of Kashmir have turned to using "kangri," an earthen firepot, as a means of heating up during the unpredictable winter months.Children and the elderly are experiencing more respiratory issues as a result of the temperature drop. The 40-day period known as 'Chilla-i-Kalan' is the most severe winter period. During this time, a cold wave sweeps the area, causing a significant drop in temperature that causes water bodies, including the well-known Dal Lake here, as well as the water supply lines in several valley areas, to freeze. During this time, there is a greater likelihood of snowfall than at any other time of year, and most places—especially those in the upper reaches—experience heavy snowfall. The duration of 'Chillai-Kalan' is from December 21 to January 31. Even after that, Kashmir experiences a 20-day "Chillai-Khurd" (small cold) and a 10-day "Chillai-Bachha" (baby cold) cold wave. J&K Police Raids 5 Locations In Srinagar In Multi-Crore Investment Fraud

SRINAGAR, Dec 20: As part of an investigation into an alleged multi-crore investment scam, the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted raids at five different locations in Srinagar, officials announced on Wednesday. The cyber wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police said that during their raids on Saturday night, they found documents and electronic devices. The fraudsters established a company called "Curative Survey" in the Karan Nagar area, allegedly taking inspiration from the Hindi film "Phir Hera Pheri." They conned a number of people out of at least Rs 59 crore by claiming to be able to double their investment in two weeks. On Tuesday, 141 Members of Parliament—a record—were suspended from their positions.However, the officials stated that since the investigation is ongoing, the sum may go up. At first, the company followed through on its promise, which attracted additional investors. At least two local YouTubers also promoted the plan, which increased its popularity. The company's owners vanished shortly after, according to officials, who also mentioned that they discovered the Karan Nagar office was locked. Idris Mir, one of the YouTubers, claimed he could not be held accountable for the scam because he had paid to promote the company on his channel."I didn't do it by myself. And there are still others. We have conducted independent investigations to confirm the company's legal status. Only then do we advertise the business. This company had branches in Jammu, Srinagar, Patton, and Sangrama and had been in business for almost a year. "What was going on all this time?" he inquired.
