SRINAGAR: Officials said on Monday that amid forecast for hot and humid weather, night temperature settled above normal at most places barring Jammu and Katra where rainfall was recorded along with Gulmarg last evening.According to a meteorological department official, Jammu City had 18.9mm of rain, Katra 18.8mm, Kathua 48.6mm, Batote and Bhaderwah traces, and Gulmarg 9.2mm and Pahalgam traces in the 24 hours up to 0830 hours, largely yesterday evening. According to the MeT department official, the weather is likely to be mostly dry up until June 23 but a brief period of showers or thunderstorms, mostly in the late afternoon or evening, cannot be ruled out.In all of J&K, he predicted, “the next five days will be hot and muggy.” According to his forecast for the days of June 24–26, scattered to widely distributed areas should expect light to heavy rain with thunder and lightning (60%).According to him, Srinagar’s minimum temperature was 16.9°C, compared to 17.0°C the night before, and was thus 2.1°C higher than average for the summer capital.He said that Qazigund, Kashmir’s entryway town, saw a low of 15.2°C, up from 13.6°C the night before, and 1.9°C above average. He said that Pahalgam, a well-known tourist destination in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, recorded a low of 9.6°C, compared to 8.6°C the previous night, and that it was 1.1°C above usual for the area. He claimed that the temperature in Kupwara town, which had been 13.6°C the night before, had settled at 13.2°C, which was typical for the north Kashmir region. According to the government, Kokernag had a low of 16.1°C, which was 3.0°C warmer than average for the area than the previous night’s low of 14.2°C.In contrast to the previous night’s low of 10.8, Gulmarg had a low of 10.5°C, which was 1.2°C warmer than average for the renowned skiing destination in the Baramulla district of north Kashmir. According to him, Jammu’s low temperature was 21.7°C as opposed to 27.7°C the night before, which was 3.8°C colder than usual for the winter capital of J&K. A low of 16.8°C was reported in Banihal (2.6 °C above normal), 19.8°C in Batote (3.8 °C above normal), 20.2°C in Katra (1.9 °C below normal), and 17.0°C in Bhaderwah (3.3 °C above normal). He claimed the low temperatures in Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil were 8.8°C and 11.2°C, respectively.
