JAMMU, May 25: Ghulam Nabi Azad Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir today called for permanent deployment of security forces in the terror-hit Rajouri–Poonch border areas and strengthening of the intelligence network and Village Defence Committees (VDCs) in the entire region.Today, after visiting the victims of terrorist attacks in the village of Dhangri, close to Rajouri, Azad said he will bring up the matter with the defence minister, Rajnath Singh, and the lieutenant governor, Manoj Sinha.
It is important to note that on January 1 of this year, terrorists attacked the Dhangri hamlet in Rajouri, leaving seven people dead and 14 injured. Terrorists opened fire on the home, killing five people, two of whom were brothers. Two additional kids were slain the very next day when an IED that the assailants had placed behind exploded.”Considering how tranquil most other areas are, it is rather concerning that similar instances are occurring in Rajouri district. People here are terrified and filled with fear, Azad continued.
The Village Defence Committees (VDCs) must be strengthened. For the purpose of reestablishing confidence among the residents of this region, more security personnel must be permanently deployed. It has valleys and ridges. A border region it. To prevent similar incidents from happening again, local, Army, and police intelligence needs to be strengthened, the former Chief Minister insisted.Azad said it was sad that the area was terrorised every month after being approached by the residents who demanded the issuing of gun licences and increased security.
I’ve pledged to discuss the matter with the defence minister.. Azad argued that a robust security system was necessary to prevent outsiders from entering and fleeing after planning an attack.
Azad said the “Dhangri terror attack is a wake-up call for all Jammu and Kashmiri people, and it shall unite us irrespective of our religious and regional beliefs to defeat it .The heinous terrorist attack that claimed these priceless lives deserves the harshest possible condemnation.”At the same time, such acts call for our solidarity above the law, faith, and religion to fight it back with equal force,” he continued.
The former chief minister claimed that while many senior party leaders visited the families of the Dhangri terror victims and those who were injured in hospitals, he was unable to do so because of his poor health. Azad said that while serving as the Union Health Minister, he approved the construction of a medical college in Rajouri and oversaw a number of other development projects. He claimed that additional steps are needed to develop the landlocked area and link it to the rest of the nation.”I can tell you that numerous such developmental projects will be undertaken if our party wins the election. Because I don’t tolerate discrimination, helping humanity is my entire priority, he insisted.
However, he referred to the increase in terrorist acts in the area as disturbing and stated that the government should prioritise ensuring the safety of its citizens. In the meantime, Azad met with a number of delegations from Nowshera, Sunderbani, and other regions to get their input on how to improve the party cadre. He claimed that because of the bad governance in existence, the populace is against the local government and wants an elected one to take its place following elections.”If we’re talking about local governance, this local administration has failed. Other necessities like access to water and power are lacking in the various settlements. Elections must now be held in order to give the people elected officials who can deal with their everyday problems.
“In the district, not a single major project has been started in the past few years, and what is available for public utility was developed during his regime,” Azad lamented.Party general secretary RS Chib, chief spokesperson Salman Nizami, ex-MLA Ashok Sharma, Riyaz Bashir Naaz, Ch Imran Zaffar, Ch Masood Ahmed, Zahid Malik Zonal president, Sushil Sharma Distt president, Arun Sharma BDC Chairman, Lovely Gupta, and Khurshid Janam were prominent attendees on the occasion.
